- Recreation Intern

Performs a variety of duties assisting the Recreation Supervisor, Aquatics Supervisor, Facilities Supervisor, Community Engagement Coordinator, and the department Superintendent with daily operations of a busy, diverse and comprehensive summer Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department.
  • Details:
    • Internship occurs between May - August
    • Typically 35-40 hours a week will be available, and work is generally conducted between 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Hours will be determined based on Special Events and other department program requirements.  A minimum commitment of 37.50 hours weekly is required.

- Recreation Leader
Responsible for planning, implementing and supervising all activities within assigned group.
 
- Teen Camp Director

Responsible for daily activities, field trips, and the safety and well being of all Teen Camp participants.

    • Position is from 6/20/23 - 8/11/23
    • Camp day hours vary:
      • Mon-Tues: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
      • Wed-Thurs: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM

Assists the Camp Director in operations of assigned summer camp including: staff and camper supervision, evaluation and training, as well as maintaining safety standards and practices.

Our summer camp Paraprofessionals are responsible for working with campers who require additional accommodations to enjoy the camp experience.

- Summer Laborers

Our Summer Laborers assists the full-time Parks Division crew in their daily operations to help maintain all park properties and facilities during the summer months.

Full & Part Time Positions Available


- Recreation Program Assistant
Provides administrative support and assists in the coordination of high-quality programs and services that meet the diverse needs of the community.  Provides customer service in person, over the phone and via email.  Utilizes software to assist with program registration, rental requests, and other department functions; furnishes information to the public and schedules appointments. Receives, reviews, processes applications/forms and collects or distributes payments.

    • Full-time position - 37.5 hours per week
      • Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  
      • As needed requires some evenings for monthly & special commission meeting
    • Salary: $23.47/hr. (Increases to $25.67 @ 6 months, and $26.06 @ 1 year).

- Lifeguards
Supervise guests at the city aquatic facilities, act to prevent accidents and injuries, and recognize and respond to potential emergencies when necessary. 
Seeking highly motivated, dependable and reliable individual(s) to work a variety of part-time shifts.  Desire American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards AND those wishing to become Certified Lifeguards with excellent communication skills.

- Arts & Culture Supervisor
Plans, organizes, and coordinates a comprehensive year round arts and culture program (that includes youth performing arts camps, art instruction, music instruction, comedy shows, and other enrichment services) in conjunction with the City’s Arts and Culture Commission. Manages the community program of the theater in the Memorial Boulevard Intra-District Arts Magnet School (MBIAMS) and other arts related initiatives throughout the city; providing the community with a diverse and dynamic cultural arts program.

    • Part-time position - 18.75 hours per week.
    • Flexible schedule with select nights & weekends pending program schedule.
    • $31.98/hr.

- Water Safety Instructors

The purpose of the Water Safety Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to Swim, Adult Swim and water safety courses and presentations. Water Safety instructor candidates must be 16 years old on or before the last scheduled day of the Water Safety Instructor course.
