The City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Seeks Feedback for ADA Compliance of City Parks and Facilities
Bristol, CT – [October 13, 2026] – The City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth, and Community Services (BPRYCS) invites you to discuss the accessibility of City parks and facilities for people with disabilities. Your feedback is important, and this is an opportunity to share your perspective. The meeting is for anyone who uses City parks and facilities, has a disability and/or is interested in City sites, access, and inclusion.
On Tuesday, October 20, 2026 from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM the City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth, and Community Services will conduct a public feedback meeting to discuss the accessibility of City parks and facilities. This meeting will be in-person, and offer virtual or online attendance. The in-person meeting will be held in the Cafeteria of the Senior Center located at 240 Stafford Avenue, in Bristol, CT.
On Wednesday, October 21, 2026 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM the City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth, and Community Services will conduct another public feedback meeting during the Board of Park Commissioners meeting to discuss the accessibility of City parks and facilities. This meeting will be in-person and offer virtual or online attendance. The in-person meeting will be held in the Council Chambers within Bristol City Hall located at 111 N. Main Street in Bristol, CT.
An additional opportunity to provide feedback comes in the form of a survey. Though not required, this survey pairs well with the in-person session, where attendees can learn more about the project and compliance requirements. Feedback is confidential and is used to improve efforts at BPRYCS parks and facilities.
The City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth, and Community Services retained WT Group AEC, LLC (WT) Accessibility Practice in 2026 to develop a transition plan for its parks and facilities, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). A transition plan identifies access barriers, and phases the retrofit work over time. John McGovern leads the Accessibility Practice at WT, and he will facilitate the meeting.
In the meeting, WT will:
- Review key ADA requirements for City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth, and Community Services parks and facilities
- Discuss the importance of community feedback in establishing retrofit priorities
- Share observations of access barriers viewed at City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth, and Community Services parks and facilities
- Ask for the access preferences and priorities of the members of the public in attendance
- Close with a discussion about next steps for the City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth, and Community Services
If a disability requires a modification, such as a sign language interpreter, in order to participate, please contact Josh Medeiros, Superintendent of Parks, Recreation, Youth, and Community Services, at 860-584-6159 or JoshMedeiros@bristolct.gov.
