Bristol resident Madison Fostervold named as Recreation Supervisor

Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Announces change in Recreation Leadership

Bristol, CT – [August 13, 2026] – The City of Bristol Department of Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services (BPRYCS) is thrilled to announce the promotion of Bristol resident, Madison Fostervold, to the role of Recreation Supervisor, effective August 10, 2026. Fostervold, who most recently served as Recreation Program Assistant, succeeds Amry Shelby, who is relocating with his family to Iowa. As Recreation Supervisor, Fostervold will join the BPRYCS Leadership team and oversee the Recreation Division in its entirety, including; one full time staff member, over 100 part-time staff, and over 70 year-round and seasonal programs and events.

“I’m incredibly pleased that Madison will be stepping into this critical role,” BPRYCS Superintendent Joshua Medeiros said. “Madison began working for BPRYCS full time in 2023, after previously serving the department in part-time roles for seven years. She has built trust across the department, amongst our staff, and with our city partners. I know her contributions will continue to benefit the Bristol community for years to come.”

Madison holds a Master’s Degree in Recreation Administration from Southern Connecticut State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Sciences from UConn. Madison is also a Certified Park and Recreation Professional with the National Recreation and Parks Association.

In anticipation of her new role, Madison said, “I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve as Recreation Supervisor in my hometown! I began volunteering with BPRYCS in 2014 as a Counselor in Training and over the past 12 years Bristol has molded my career. I am excited to plan high-quality recreation programs that serve our diverse and growing Bristol community.”

As Recreation Supervisor, Madison will be responsible for overseeing all of the cities recreational services including summer camps, sports leagues, adult fitness, and youth enrichment, as well as the Pine Lake Adventure Park facility.

Madison’s predecessor is Amry Shelby, who will be departing from BPRYCS on August 20, 2026 in anticipation of his move back to his home state of Iowa. “Madison has extensive knowledge of our department, offerings, and operations”, said Shelby. “Her passion, energy, and overall enthusiasm are contagious and evident in her commitment to showing up for and serving the Bristol community. I look forward to seeing Madison step into the Supervisor role.”
