Bristol Youth Commission Seeks Youth and Prevention Leaders Awards Nominations
Bristol, CT – [March 4, 2026] – The City of Bristol’s Department of Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services (BPRYCS) is seeking nominations for the 34th Annual Youth and Prevention Leaders Awards, which spotlights and celebrates young people who are going above and beyond in service to the Bristol community. Youth and youth groups may be nominated by adults that benefited from a community service project or volunteerism of a Bristol young person.
Youth and Community Services Supervisor and Youth Commission Liaison, Stephen Bynum, stated, “This is one of my favorite events of the year. It is a distinct honor and privilege to celebrate and shine a light on the work of so many dedicated youth who are doing outstanding things to give back to the Bristol community. If that sounds like a young person you know, please consider nominating them.”
Nominations are open to individuals as well as groups and will be accepted until 4:30 PM on Friday March 27, 2026. Applications are reviewed by the City of Bristol Youth Commission. Award recipients will be honored in front of friends, family, and community members at an annual recognition ceremony held on May 6, 2024.

Bynum continued to express his enthusiasm for the program stating, “It is important to have a platform to recognize, honor, and inspire the youth who go above and beyond to serve our All-Heart City through their extraordinary volunteer efforts.”
This is the fourth year the program includes recognizing prevention efforts in Bristol. Drug-Free Communities Program Coordinator, Deedra Willingham, stated “The Bristol Eliminating Substance Use Together (BEST) coalition has a specific focus on substance use and mental health among youth. These awards further reinforce our belief that a focus on youth pays dividends towards advancing prevention work for the entire community.”
Nomination forms for both individual and youth groups are available online at www.bristolrec.com. Completed applications can be submitted via e-mail to Youth and Community Services Supervisor, Stephen Bynum, at StephenBynum@bristolct.gov by Friday March 27, 2026 at 4:30 PM.
