Lead Lifeguard Atem Caron promoted to Facilities Maintenance Technician
[October 24, 2024] The City of Bristol Department of Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services (BPRYCS) is pleased to announce the promotion of Atem Caron to the role of Facilities Maintenance Technician. The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for daily maintenance, custodial work, operation and safety of the Dennis Malone Aquatics Center, Page Pool and Rockwell Pool. This includes upkeep of all facility mechanical systems used to regulate water and chemical balance, pool cleaning and other maintenance functions.Since 2017, Atem Caron served in the Aquatics Division as an American Red Cross Lifeguard and was promoted in June 2020 to Lead Lifeguard where he supervised lifeguards, front desk attendants and water safety instructors. In addition to these duties, Atem worked closely with the Aquatics Supervisor and former Facilities Maintenance Technician to learn the ins and outs of pool maintenance. In September 2024, Atem achieved his Certified Pool Operators (CPO) License with the National Swimming Pool Foundation. Superintendent Dr. Josh Medeiros stated, “As a department we employ hundreds of part-time and seasonal staff each year. We have a lot of outstanding staff but every once in a while, we find those individuals that are truly committed to the job, incredibly dedicated and hardworking, and come back year after year because they love what they do. Atem is one of those people. We are so excited to be able to promote him into this role and look forward to seeing him continue to improve our aquatics facilities!”Aquatics Supervisor Raelynne Andrews remarked, "I have had the pleasure of knowing Atem since he started working as a lifeguard almost eight years ago and watching him grow in that time. He knows our facilities so well and I really look forward to seeing him succeed in the new role as Facility Maintenance Technician."
In anticipation of his new role, Atem said, "I am excited to continue my role in the aquatics division for BPRYCS as the new Facilities Maintenance Technician. I believe it will be a fulfilling job where I can use the skills I have learned over the years and continue to learn new things from those around me and those who have mentored me in the past." Atem began his new role on Tuesday October 22, 2024 with an hourly rate of $30.19/hr.
