Bristol, CT – [August 1, 2024] –  Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services (BPRYCS) is excited to share that a new playground is coming to Federal Hill Green in Bristol, CT. As part of the ongoing Upgrade Your Play campaign, the department is asking the community for their input on what that playground is going to look like. Voting on the new playground design opens on Thursday, August 1st via the department’s online Parks Project Portal accessible at BristolRec.com. Community members are encouraged to review proposed playground plans and renderings and then vote for their favorite design.

Community members are able to vote between two proposed playground designs, however both of the proposed playground designs serve children ages 5 to 12 and include elevated and ground level accessible play elements, slides, and climbing elements.

“Selecting the new playground design at Federal Hill is the next step in the department’s ongoing Upgrade Your Play campaign, which launched in 2022,” explained BPRYCS Superintendent, Dr. Joshua Medeiros. The campaign aims to understand community needs and solicit feedback in order to deliver high quality facilities to Bristol residents. “It began with the addition of a variety of swings at Federal Hill Green, which was based directly on user feedback. Then a community vote helped guide the selection process for the playground at E.G. Stocks Playground and Casey Field. The most recent project to be completed as part of the Upgrade Your Play campaign was the installation of the new castle and ship playground at Seymour Park, which opened earlier this summer.”

“Community members and residents cast over 1,500 votes when asked to vote for their favorite playground design for Seymour Park. We’re hoping to continue that momentum and engagement into the selection process for Federal Hill Green’s new playground,” added Community Engagement Coordinator, Erica Benoit.  “Federal Hill Green has been identified as a priority for residents in the most recent Master Plan Site Analysis and Community Survey. The park is newly home to inter generational swings and is located at the heart of the recently designated Cultural District. We’re excited to build on that momentum and I always love seeing which design the community picks!” Benoit explained.

Voting will be open until 5:30 PM on Thursday, August 29th. Community members can cast their votes by going to the Parks Project Portal at www.Bristolrec.com and visiting the Upgrade Your Play page for Federal Hill Green. Funding for the playground was adopted in the new fiscal year budget by the City Council and Board of Finance and is allocated from the Local Capital Improvement Program (LOCIP) fund.
