Bristol to Celebrate Grand Opening of New Playground at Seymour Park on June 5th
Bristol, CT – [May 31, 2024] – The City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department (BPRYCS) is celebrating a new playground at Seymour Park, located on Shrub Road, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 5th at 4:30 p.m.
The new playground offers increased play opportunities which includes numerous features such as a climbing net, swings, multi-spinner carousel, an imaginative castle and ship design and a 2-to-5 age-group play tower.
"It has been exciting to see the vision of Seymour Park come to fruition,” said Superintendent Dr. Joshua Medeiros. “The ribbon cutting is a celebration not just for the new playground but the long-overdue revitalization of Seymour Park; which has included the installation of a post-tension concrete basketball court, improvements to the ballfield, and six new heavily utilized pickleball courts. BPRYCS presented two potential playground design concepts for Seymour Park to the community in July of 2023 as part of their ongoing Upgrade Your Play campaign. More than 1,500 votes were cast in response to the call asking residents and community members to select a design.
“The Upgrade Your Play campaign allows us to integrate resident and park user input into the playground design and planning process throughout Bristol’s parks. Since the start of the Upgrade Your Play campaign in 2021, BPRYCS has received over 6,000 votes and submissions in response to the call for community input and feedback,” explained BPRYCS Community Engagement Coordinator Erica Benoit.
The total cost of the playground project was approximately $173,000 with a majority of funding from the Local Capital Improvement Program (LoCIP). Other playgrounds identified as a priority as part of the Upgrade Your Play campaign include Peck Park, Wilson Field, and Federal Hill Green.
“Next, we’ll be looking at improvements to Federal Hill Green and the James Riordan Playground,” said Benoit.
