Bristol Announces 2023 Pony League Champions and Award Recipients

Bristol, CT – [August 17, 2023] – The 2023 Scott/McCooey Pony League Championship was held on Sunday night, August 13th at Muzzy Field under the bright lights. The Bees defeated the Grizzlies in front of a packed house to take home the 2023 Scott/McCooey Pony League championship. The Bees (3-seed) battled in the single elimination tournament, taking down the 6-seed, the 2-seed, and ultimately the 1-seed to win this year's title.

The Bees were led by pitcher Jayden Sokolowski who pitched 6+ scoreless innings, surrendering just four hits and striking out nine, before giving the ball to Cole Chaivanik who closed out the game to secure the league championship for the Bees. The game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth when Shane Barry scored on an infield single by Chaivanik. Luca Alves then doubled to left field, scoring both Sokolowski and Chaivanik. The Bees defensively didn't commit an error behind Sokolowski who pitched into and out of trouble, getting big strikeouts when he needed them most. For the Grizzlies, Bradyn Surreira pitched well, surrendering just three hits over 5 2/3's innings of work, striking out nine. Aaron Burke, Jayden Alicea, Noah Molinsky, and Surreira each had a hit for the Grizzlies.
