Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services hosted its 72nd Annual Perry J. Spinelli Fishing Derby

May 3, 2023 – [Bristol, CT] The City of Bristol Department of Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services (BPRYCS) hosted its 72nd Annual Perry J. Spinelli Fishing Derby on April 29, 2023.  This year’s fishing derby was a morning filled with great catches, fun prizes, and memories to last a lifetime.

The 72nd Annual Perry J. Spinelli Fishing Derby was a free event open to children 13 years old or younger and offered prizes for catching the first trout, catching the biggest and smallest fish of the day, catching the limit of three fish, and being the first to catch a fish during our 10-minute derbies throughout the event.

Madison Fostervold, Recreation Program Assistant, commented, “We are extremely thankful for everyone who came out to the Perry J. Spinelli Fishing Derby, even with the inclement weather. It is amazing to see our community come together and spend time outdoors with their loved ones.”

This event had 58 registrants and many more family and friends there for support. Teddy Levesque, 6, was our first fisher to catch a trout. Oliver Stephens, 6, caught the biggest fish of the day measuring in at 14.5 inches and Peter Tribuzio, 10, caught the smallest fish of the day, measuring in at 3.5 inches. Hunter Heath, Natalia Lavriola, and Daniel Williams were our 10 minute-minute derby winners.

Fostervold stated, “We would not have been able to host this event if it wasn’t for our generous sponsors. Their support helps us to keep this event going for over 72 years. We would like to thank Bristol Police Union, City True Value, Local 233 AFSCME Union, Oakland LLC, and Bristol Professionals & Supervisors Association for their continued support ensuring we had another great year out on the pond. The community support helps us provide prizes and memories for our participants to leave the event with.”
