Bristol Parks Superintendent Elected to National Parks Accreditation Council

Bristol, CT – [June 24, 2022] City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth & Community Services Superintendent Josh Medeiros was recruited and elected to the national Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT) as a Practitioner Representative. COAPRT is the country’s premier accreditation agency for higher education programs. As a council member, Medeiros will assist with review of program self-study reports for compliance with national standards, review and approve visitation reports, and establish accreditation policies, procedures, and standards for higher education institutes across the country.

The purposes of the Council are to advance academic quality in teaching, learning, research and service; demonstrate accountability fostering public awareness, confidence, and investment; and encourage planning for change and improvement through assessment of quality, especially student achievement. Through formal review and accreditation of higher education programs, COAPRT protects students, families, sponsoring bodies, colleges, universities, employers, and the public by ensuring that those enrolled in accredited programs are provided a quality education that empowers them to succeed in parks, recreation, tourism and related specialization professions.

Superintendent Medeiros states, “It’s an honor to be selected to join the prestigious COAPRT. I’m looking forward to applying both my skills as a practitioner as well as my educational background to ensure the nation’s colleges and universities are preparing and holding future parks and recreation professionals to the highest industry standards.”

Medeiros’ term begins immediately to fill a vacancy on the council and then his first official term will begin in the fall of 2022 and conclude in 2025.
