James Costa selected as Program Assistant

April 23, 2022 - The City of Bristol Department of Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services is pleased to announce the selection of James Costa to assume the role of Program Assistant. James comes to the department with nearly 4 years of previous experience working for the Town of Manchester Department of Leisure, Family and Recreation where he served in a variety of roles including Clerical Assistant, Facilities Director, and most recently as Culture Lab Coordinator. James was responsible for management of the Better Manchester Magazine, marketing, communications with community partners, and other projects for the town. James has an earned Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Connecticut.

The Program Assistant is responsible for a variety of clerical tasks managing the front office of the Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department as well as providing program coordination and assistance to the Recreation Supervisor. After a competitive testing and recruitment process James emerged as the clear candidate to assume this important role. Recreation Supervisor Amry Shelby stated, “We are very excited to have James join the BPRYCS department. James will bring a unique perspective and valuable experience that aligns with the department’s values. I truly expect him to impact the Bristol community in a positive way.”

In anticipation of his new role, James said, "It is my great pleasure to join Bristol's Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department. There are few cities in Connecticut as progressive and forward-thinking in their programming as the City of Bristol, and it is my honor to be able to join such a talented team."

James Costa officially assumes the role of Program Assistant in the Department of Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department on Monday May 9, 2022 with a starting rate of $22.79/hr.
