Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department to host 71st Annual Perry J. Spinelli Fishing Derby

Fishing Derby 1

Bristol, CT
– The City of Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services (BPRYCS) Department will host the 71st Annual Perry J. Spinelli Fishing Derby on April 30th. This year’s fishing derby is sure to be a morning full of big catches, prizes, and family fun. Children ages 13 and under of all fishing skill levels are welcome to grab their fishing poles and join BPRYCS at the pond.

The 71st Annual Perry J. Spinelli Fishing Derby is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 30th at the Page Park Pond from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Families looking to participate in the fishing derby should arrive at Page Park Pond between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM to register for the event. There is no cost to register and participate in the fishing derby.

Amry Shelby, Recreation Supervisor, commented, “We’re looking forward to another year of the Perry J. Spinelli Fishing Derby. This is an event that not only kicks off the spring season and warmer weather, but brings families together to enjoy one of the world’s oldest pastimes.”

While this is a recreational event, there are a few rules that participants will have to follow while trying to get the big catch. Each participant in the fishing derby may use 1 fishing pole, 1 hook, 1 bobber and any type of legal bait. Artificial lures or gang hooks are not permitted. As this is a family event, parents or guardians may assist in casting, but children must land their own fish. Prizes will be awarded to participants in a variety of categories.

“BPRYCS would not be able to offer the fishing derby without the support of our sponsors. Bristol Police Union, American Legion Post 2, Bristol Fire Association, Zach Ibanez’s State Farm, City True Value, Scarritt’s Pools & Spas, Local 1338, Oakland Mechanicals, and Bristol Professionals & Supervisors Association all contributed to this year’s fishing derby. The community support is really what makes this event so special and allows most of the participants to go home with something to remember the derby by.” Shelby said.
