ICE SKATING AVAILABLE AT ROCKWELL PARK ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 20TH
The Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services Department announced today that the Rockwell Park Lagoon will be open for a pop-up ice skating event on this Saturday from 11am-3pm.
“Due to the length of this cold snap, the ice is currently frozen 10 inches deep,” said Parks Superintendent Josh Medeiros. “The Parks crews will use snowblowers to clear the snow on Saturday morning and we should be ready to go.”
“In addition, the Parks Department will provide free hot chocolate, coffee and snacks within Mrs. Rockwell’s Pavilion. The fireplace will also be in use for people to warm up,” said Amry Shelby, Recreation Supervisor. “We ask that all those attending wear masks, bring their own skates, and enjoy this winter outdoor activity. We also want to caution that we do not encourage any hockey activity or general skating outside of our scheduled event hours for safety purposes.”
“I have great memories of ice skating and then gathering around the fireplace in the Page Pavilion,” said Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu who grew up next to Page Park on Oakland Street. “We have been evaluating the ponds all winter in the hope that we could offer ice skating, and are thrilled that even with some bumps and ice imperfections, Rockwell Park will be open this Saturday.”
